"I believe in you. Glow for it!"

― Sage's Mirror Mantra Sage and the Journey to Wishworld

Sage is one of the twelve main characters in the Star Darlings animated and book series. She is the main point of view for the first Star Darlings book Sage and the Journey to Wishworld. She first appears in the episode Star Charmed and is voiced by Libe Barer. Sage's roommate at Starling Academy is Cassie and her first Wisher on Wishworld is Genevieve.

Story[]

History[]

Sage wants to be the best Wish-Granter in Starland history. She has always dreamed of attending Starling Academy, to train as a Wish-Granter since she saw her first shooting star. Being admitted to Starling Academy was like a dream come true. She just couldn't wait to get started!

When it comes to energy manipulations, she can out-glow anyone! It's always easy for her. Even as a baby, Sage could levitate her toys! But because of her natural talents, she sometimes forgets that she has a lot to learn from school. Sage uses her gift for energy manipulation to play blazing guitar solos in the band.

Sage's mom, Indirra, is a top wish energy scientist and her dad, Leonard, works in the government. She and her seven-year-old twin brothers, Archer and Helio—who love nothing more than annoying their big sister—grew up in a big rambling house in Starland City, along with their parents and grandmother, Gran.

Appearance[]

Sage has a light mocha skintone, long amethyst hair that is often plaited into thick, shimmering braids, reaching her waist. A pointy chin and large twinkling violet eyes give her a slightly mischievous look. Her cheeks are permanently flushed pink, with her rosebud lips curved into a playful smile. Like all Starlings, she has sparkles that glimmers on her cheeks. Her clothes consist of a thin star-centered headband, a v-neck bell sleeved flare knee length dress, glittery tights with stars on top, knee-high ruffle trimmed socks and a pair of shiny heeled boots to complete the look. Her wish pendant is a sparkling gold star that hangs from a long lavender rope accented with tiny stars of its own. Like all Wish Pendants, it soaks in wish energy and glows when her Wisher is near or when the pendant takes on wish energy.

With her wishling disguise, Sage's hair and eye colour change to brown, with her hair leaving only a streak of lavender and her skin losing its sparkle. Her clothes consist of a knee-length navy purple dress with cute little ruffled sleeves, yellow and purple bracelets dangling from her wrist and a pair of brown boots tied up with purple lace. Her accessories include her Wish Pendant and a lavender backpack with a purple star key chain.

Personality[]

Sage is a keen and good-natured starling. Full of social attraction, charisma, and always looking on the bright side, she makes valorous choices, shows intuition, and is decisive. A natural wish-granter, she shines brighter and beyond her years. She is practically a walking force of positive wish energy! Sage is a natural leader and is always ready for a challenge.

However, Sage is not all twinkles and starlight. As she is still a young starling, she often overestimates her abilities and is hesitant to learn from a book. She sometimes says things without thinking and then falls over herself apologizing to them! She is also prone to being impatient and losing her temper.

Sage's Room[]

Sage's room had to be all lavender and shades of the same color, and she chose a circular design because she likes the way a circle never ends. Sage also loves plants, so she has one on either side of her bed. Their soft glow provides a natural calming night-light.

Her comfy circular chair is perfect for reading, taking a nap, or just daydreaming. Sage's porthole windows are holo-powered. She designed and programmed them to enhance or redirect her mood. If Sage doesn't like the weather, she can change the view outside the window!

Powers and Abilities[]

Starling Physiology[]

Being a Starling, Sage possesses all of the natural traits that the species has.

  • Wish Energy Manipulation - Sage harnesses positive wish energy for most of her abilities.
  • Energy Blasts - As displayed in The Power of Twelve, wish energy can be used to fire streams, bursts, orbs, and waves of offensive power against opponents.
  • Force Fields - Demonstrated in the above special, Sage can conjure shields as defense.
  • Extended Lifespan - In Scarlet Discovers True Strength, it’s confirmed that Starlings can live for thousands of years, as Mira’s grandmother is over thousands of years old. Before that, in Leona's Unlucky Mission it was hinted that a few decades wasn’t too long in comparison to Starling lifespans. However, they do not have eternal youth, as Professor Elara Ursa is stated to be among one of the oldest wish granters and has clearly aged in a similar manner to a wishling elder.
  • Disease Immunity - In Scarlet Discovers True Strength, it states that the wish energy surrounding Starlings keeps them from contracting illnesses.
  • Superhuman Knowledge - In Leona's Unlucky Mission, Starlings are shown to be nigh-perfect at mathematics from birth. Astra's Mixed-Up Mission also implies that Starlings are the same way towards towards literature and similar subjects such as language and grammar.
  • Levitating objects and flying - In Rising Starlings, Sage is shown levitating pillows and throwing them at Vivica. She also levitates a carpet to conceal her and Cassie from Scarlet. When trying to sneak off to the Wishworld Surveillance Deck, she grabs Cassie's arm and they both fly over Piper while she's mediating.
  • Star catching - In Shoot for the Stars, Leona challenges Sage to catch as many stars as they can.
  • Riding stars - In Taming Star, Sage arrives at the Wish-Cavern and is faced with a wild shooting star. Her lesson was to tame the star in order to be prepared for when she goes on her first wish mission.

Wish Mission Signature Powers[]

The Star Darlings each gain a power that is meant to assist with carrying out their wish missions. It is unknown if this is exclusive to them, or if they only work on Wishworld, as Adora uses hers to heal Vega in the The Power of Twelve.

  • Mind Reading - In Sage and the Journey to Wishworld, she discovers that her special talent is reading the minds of others while walking in the halls of her wisher's school.

Trivia[]
